Leadership Journeys: Meet Nevin Schuler from the Leaders4Tomorrow Program
Thanks to the amazing support of our global partners, at Talentor International, we consciously created a diverse group of leaders from Switzerland, the Netherlands, Latvia, Austria and Ukraine, to participate in this Leadership Program, to learn from each other’s experiences, to answer the questions that we have before leading teams and the experience of already leading an entire operation.
The Leaders4Tomorrow Program officially started in September 2023 at the Talentor Summit in Amsterdam, followed by a series of virtual sessions with global leaders and HR professionals from different industries, and an on-site Leadership Camp in Vienna during November 2023 in which we engaged with provoking keynotes, learning sessions and updates from everyone from the Leaders4Tomorrow Program team.
And so, we soon reach July 2024, in which the closing of the program and the presentation of the strategic projects that each of our leaders developed for their companies and markets took place!
One of the top talents within the Talentor Community who participated and recently culminated the first cohort of the Leaders4Tomorrow Program was Nevin Schuler.
Nevin Schuler works as a Recruiting Consultant at Coopers Group AG, our Partners from Switzerland. In his role he recruits professionals and executives for permanent positions. He’s studying Business Administration in the Bachelor's program at the Bern University of Applied Sciences.
The strategic project that Nevin developed at Talentor’s Leaders4Tomorrow Program was to create and establish a business unit for permanent placements in Bern. Until now, Coopers has only operated in temporary placements in Bern, so this project aimed to diversify their offerings and develop the permanent placement sector, involving acquiring new clients, searching for candidates, and managing the entire recruitment process from start to finish. Consequently, Nevin has been working as a 360-degree consultant since the project started.
His personal and professional progress was inspiring for our Talentor team, so during this leadership journey, we had the pleasure of having him in one of our recent Partner Calls, next to our +37 global partners, in which he shared his whole experience and his Program’s project. On this occasion we wanted to introduce Nevin to our whole community, so we asked him a few questions. Here is what he shared with us!
Hi Nevin! Congratulations on completing the Leaders4Tomorrow Program and developing a stand-out project! We want our Talentor Community to know you a little bit better, can you share with us what inspires you most in your work?
I am generally very positive and motivated at work. I set myself realistic goals and it pushes me when I achieve them. It also makes me happy when I can help candidates find a new position that they like and at the same time provide the client with someone who fulfills the requirements. The dialogue with my colleagues is also always a good change.
How would you describe consulting/recruiting in your region?
The market in Bern is not huge for us, which is why a good customer relationship and a good reputation are very important. We always try to be present with the client and at the same time offer the best possible service for the candidates. In this way, we are recommended to others and can be successful. People in Bern appreciate the personal contact and are deeply committed locally.
What do you value most when dealing with candidates?
My instincts. If I don't have a good gut feeling about the candidate, I don't submit it to the client. Candidates should be reliable and friendly. If I don't enjoy working with them, then I don't do it.
What do you do to maintain a good work-life balance?
To find a good balance, I do a lot of sports and enjoy spending time with my loved ones. I play football and am involved several times a week there. I also enjoy jogging, skiing (winter), and swimming (summer). I also enjoy going out to restaurants or cooking something good myself.
If you could travel to any country in the world tomorrow, where would you go?
In that case, I would go straight to Tanzania. I really want to hike Kilimanjaro and I find it perfect to be able to go on a safari during the same trip. The wildlife and the Big 5 in particular have always fascinated me!
Nevin’s compassion for recruiting, his goal setting and creative approach of building a new market really stood out! No matter what space he is in – in the recruiting world, at soccer or at university – he spreads a positive, winning and solution-oriented culture!
Thank you Nevin for sharing these interesting fun- facts with us! We wish you and Coopers the very best in the Bern business unit! It was a pleasure to have worked with you in the program and to know more about you! We hope it was an exciting experience for you… almost as exciting as climbing mount Kilimanjaro! 😉
