People & Technology: The Way Forward in Executive Search. Reflections from the Global Partner Meeting in Toronto
Across two intensive days of exchange, one message emerged consistently:
The future of executive search lies in the intelligent combination of people and technology.
Not as competing forces, but as complementary strengths.
Navigating an Overwhelming AI Landscape
A session led by Michaela Moser addressed a challenge facing many organizations today: the pace of technological change. New recruiting platforms, AI tools, and automation solutions appear almost weekly, each promising efficiency gains and competitive advantage.
For individual organizations, keeping up can feel nearly impossible.
What made this session particularly valuable was its practical orientation. Instead of discussing AI conceptually, it highlighted concrete use cases already implemented across the Talentor network. Automation is increasingly handling administrative work, data organization, and routine communication, allowing consultants to devote more time to meaningful interaction with clients and candidates.
In this sense, technology is not transforming the visible part of executive search as much as it is improving what happens behind the scenes. When implemented well, it becomes almost invisible — simply enabling better work.
Market Mastery and Strategic Clarity for the Executive Search Partner of the Future
A keynote by Jeff Kaye and Karen Schmidt of Sanford Rose Associates focused on what distinguishes sustainable success in a highly competitive industry.
Their central theme was market mastery. Leading firms do not attempt to cover every sector or function. Instead, they develop deep expertise in selected niches, allowing them to operate as true advisors rather than transactional providers.
This strategic focus requires discipline: choosing where to invest resources, building long-term credibility, and aligning business development with a clear positioning. Technology can support scale, but expertise creates differentiation.
Equally important was their perspective on developing “the company of the future.” This includes structured processes, strong knowledge management, investment in consultant development, and a clear vision of how the firm creates value for clients beyond filling roles.
Delivering Service Excellence Throughout the Search Process
Practical insights into execution came from hosts Themis Chrisanthopoulos and Richard Wahba, Managing Directors of Expertech – Talentor partner in Montreal, Toronto and with a presence in the US.
Drawing on their experience in the Canadian market, they illustrated how high service standards are maintained from the first client conversation through to final placement and onboarding. A particular focus was on coaching candidates throughout the process — preparing them for interviews, providing transparent feedback, and ensuring they can present their strengths effectively.
This approach benefits all parties involved. Clients gain well-prepared candidates, candidates experience a structured and respectful process, and the search firm strengthens its reputation as a trusted partner.
Importantly, the session highlighted that service excellence is not a single action, but a system of consistent behaviors embedded in the firm’s methodology.
Global Reach Combined with Local Insight
Personal exchanges during the meeting underscored another core strength: the ability to operate globally while remaining deeply rooted in local markets.
Leadership expectations, cultural norms, compensation structures, and talent availability vary widely across regions. Global clients increasingly seek coordinated support across borders, but they also rely on local expertise to navigate these complexities effectively.
Technology can facilitate communication and data sharing, yet it cannot replace contextual understanding. The true value lies in combining international reach with on-the-ground insight.
And as our Talentor Partner in Prague put it, Barbara Hansen:
We gather to strengthen our presence across the Americas. But we aren’t just here for the ice hockey and the views – we are here for our clients. We are incredibly proud of how our network operates: right now, Talentor Czech Republic is actively supporting a high-growth Czech company in opening its new office in Bogotá, Colombia. Those global client success cases make our work incredibly rewarding and also unique!
To the next big Talentor gathering, creating many global client success stories and learning moments until then – the global summit in Sweden in September!
