Valued partners over the years: Knowing more about Talentor Austria
We talked with Talentor Austria’s Executive Director for the sector of Industrial & Construction, Matthias Dietrich, to learn more about the current situation of their company and how being part of an international network of recruitment and selection of executives, such as Talentor, has influenced the business development to continue finding the Leaders for tomorrow locally and globally.
Hello Matthias, many of our partners already had the pleasure of meeting you, others are eager to do so or to get to know you better. Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?
As the Executive Director for the Industrial & Construction sector at Talentor Austria, my department specializes in recruitment for companies in the field of plant construction and mechanical engineering as well as along the entire building & construction value chain. For example, our building & construction clients are reaching from real estate developers, civil engineers, building product suppliers, and construction companies to property management and technology companies.
I have been in the recruiting business, specifically working in Executive & Direct Search, for 15 years and I have always worked in and had a passion for the Industrial Sector. In 2021 I joined Talentor Austria with the focus on developing the business unit Industrial & construction in the company and on the Austrian recruiting market. Now, in 2024, I am the Executive Director of this department.
Can you tell us a little bit about Talentor Austria?
Talentor Austria was founded in 2019, specializing in Executive & Direct Search in the fields of Consumer Goods & Retail, Life Science & Health Care, as well as Industrial & Construction. These 3 departments together with our in-house Talent Acquisition team are the 4 units of Talentor Austria. In 2024 we are currently celebrating our 5th anniversary!
What would you like to emphasize about the search for talent (recruiting) in Austria?
Austria has a lot of valuable talent in the industrial and construction sector. Unfortunately, there is a shortage of upcoming talent due to a lack of graduates in the field.
At Talentor Austria, we are looking to identify this young and precious talent and match it with our clients to not only fill but enrich their teams with great “Leaders for tomorrow” – our company credo.
What has changed in your business and company since the last five years?
We have had a pretty eventful 5 years due to the many changes and difficult circumstances in the world. Being in the business for 15 years, I have never experienced such intense turbulences or ups and downs in the market and economy as in recent years. Through all these unstable times, the pretty much consistent team of Talentor Austria was able to deal with and make it through successfully with a dynamic approach passion for the craft, and commitment to our clients; always striving to provide our clients with the “Leaders for tomorrow” – talented, dedicated and capable candidates.
What can you share with us about milestone achievements?
A milestone I would like to mention is restarting Talentor’s Industry Practice Group in 2022. I was able to reformulate our ways of working and exchange. We have also now grown from 5 members in 2022 to 15 members in 2024. We are meeting every month to keep each other updated on our current projects and exchange potential leads and knowledge.
Personally, the Industry Practice Group provides me with a great feeling of community and allows me to meet inspiring personalities in the field.
What do you think has surprised Talentor partners the most about your local market?
Partners in our network have been surprised about the comparatively high salaries we have in Austria. Also referring to 13th and 14th salaries – Holiday and Christmas remuneration which is not mandatory for companies to provide in every country.
If you had to say the 3 main benefits of belonging to Talentor, which aspects would you choose and why?
The 3 main benefits I have found in being part of the Talentor network are first, being able to have exchange on an international level. I am able to learn from our partners in other countries about best practices and they can also provide a different perspective on matters I might only see from an Austrian POV.
Additionally, it is such a valuable factor to be able to support and attract international clients. A client of mine might be working with me on a project in Austria, but I might also refer them to our German partners to work on projects in their German plant. Following that thought, our partners are each specialized in their country’s recruiting market’s needs which I find very interesting and unique about the Talentor network. It provides a level of independence.
Lastly, I once again have to mention the opportunity to meet interesting characters in the network and also in the field of Industrial & Construction on an international level. Learning from these experiences and taking that input into how I approach my own projects with fresh enthusiasm and an open mind.
At Talentor, we are pleased to know our partners' perspectives on what being part of our network means to them and how cross-border collaborations have helped their companies grow, and to face challenges in their local markets.
We are happy to have partners like Talentor Austria because of their active participation and commitment to growing our community in their country by finding the Leaders for tomorrow and leading Talentor’s initiatives such as the Practice Groups. Cheers to more company Anniversaries and to reaching many more goals together!
Thank you, Matthias, for sharing this interview with us and for all your efforts in leading the Industry Practice Group next to our global partners who specialize in that field!
